Thinking From The Heart

I’ve just finished reading the biography of Amy Carmichael. Amy is well-known among Christians as an amazing woman who achieved extraordinary things in her lifetime. She was purposeful and powerful, I dare say very few seconds of her lifetime was wasted.

My mum came to pick me up from the bus stop near our house. As soon as we had buckled ourselves in the seat, I asked her,

“How are things back home?”

She said, “In turmoil.”

I used to read and write strategic positioning statements for big brands and I enjoyed this work immensely. To me, a strategic positioning statement is simply what a brand planner have decided is the smartest way to present a brand after spending a long time researching what consumers need and want.

For example, one brand may position itself as the fun and affordable holiday destination for young families. Another brand may position itself as the premier resort for single and affluent yuppies. The strategic positioning statement is so important, it even drives the product development team to recreate the product.
